How to Play Tixy
Tixy is a dice-and-scorecard game in the Yamb family. Each turn you roll five dice up to three times — click a die to keep it between rolls, click it again to let it roll — then score the result in one of the 48 boxes on your scorepad. When every box is filled, the game is over. Score more points than everyone else!
To score, click an open box to see what it's worth — that nominates it. Click it a second time (or hit Score) to lock it in, or just click a different box to change your mind.
The Four Columns
Every scoring row appears once in each of four columns, and each column has its own filling rule:
Down
Fill top to bottom, in order. Twos can only be scored after Ones, and so on down to TIXY.
Free
Anything goes — score any empty box in this column on any turn.
Up
The reverse of Down: fill bottom to top, starting with TIXY and finishing with Ones.
Call
The tricky one. You must pick your Call box right after your first roll — rolling again or saving locks it in — and whatever you end up with goes in that box, good or bad.
Scoring
Upper Section — Ones through Sixes
Roll as many of the named number as you can; the box scores that many points (three Fives in the Fives box = 15). Reach 60 points in a column's upper section and you earn a +30 bonus for that column.
Middle Section — High & Low
Both boxes simply score the total of your five dice — aim high for High and low for Low. The column's middle-section score is (High − Low) × your Ones score from that same column. If your High ends up smaller than your Low, the whole section can go negative!
Lower Section
- Straight — 1-2-3-4-5 or 2-3-4-5-6. Worth 66 points on your first roll, 56 on your second, 46 on your third; zero without a straight.
- Full House — three of a kind plus a pair (five of a kind counts too). Scores the total of the dice +30; zero otherwise.
- Four of a Kind — four matching dice (five of a kind counts). Scores the four matching dice +40; zero otherwise.
- TIXY — all five dice the same. Scores the total of the dice +50; zero otherwise. Expect a celebration.
Fun numbers: a perfect game is 2296. A good game tops 1000. Odds of rolling a TIXY within three rolls: about 1 in 22. A natural TIXY (first roll): 1 in 1296.
Strategy tip: work on your Up and Down columns early to keep options open — even if it means an early zero — and remember big rolls are worth more in the lower section if a box is waiting for them.
Ways to Play
Free Play
Jump in any time, no account needed. Random dice, full scorepad, your best scores hit the leaderboard if you're signed in and sharing.
Re-Play Free Play
Finished a Free Play game and want a second shot at the exact same dice? Re-Play it from your results screen or your My Games history (signed-in players only) and see what a different set of choices would have scored. It's just for fun — Re-Play games never affect your stats, the leaderboards, or high scores, though beating your original score still earns the special Re-Play Winner badge.
Daily Challenge
One game per day, and everyone gets the same dice — pure skill against the whole site. You need to be logged in, you only get one attempt, and today's high score is always shown as the score to beat.
Social Game
Invite 1–3 friends to a private game (accounts required). Everyone plays the same turn at the same time — the board moves on when the whole table has scored — with chat, nudges for slowpokes, and an optional AI commentator calling the action. Choose identical dice for everyone or independent rolls.
Pips
Pips are Tixy's points — the running score of everything you've done on the site, separate from the score of any single game. A big game is worth bragging about; pips are what you build up over a season of them.
How pips are earned
| What you did | Pips | When it lands |
|---|---|---|
| Finish a Free Play game | 1 | Straight away |
| Finish a Friends Game | 3 | Straight away |
| Finish the Daily Challenge | 5 | Straight away |
| Beat other players in the Daily Challenge 1 pip for every player who finished below you | 1 each | Overnight, once the day has closed |
| Beat other players in Free Play ½ pip per player beaten, counted on your best score of the day | ½ each | Overnight, once the day has closed |
| Hit the Lucky Die of the Day 1 pip for every lucky die in the hand you score the target box with — Free Play only | 1 each | When the game finishes |
| Re-Play a game | 0 | Never — Re-Plays are just for fun |
Once you have an account, every pip you earn is itemised on your Pip Activity page.
Monthly winners
Pips are totalled per calendar month as well as for life. Whoever finishes a month with the most pips is that month's Monthly Points Leader 👑 — a badge you can win again and again. If two or more players finish level on the top total, they all get it; nobody is edged out by a tie-breaker.
Your lifetime total earns badges of its own as you pass 1,200, 1,300, 1,400 and 1,500 pips. Those land the moment you cross the line.
When the numbers update
- Finish awards — the 1, 3 or 5 pips for completing a game, and any Lucky Die bonus — are added as soon as the game ends.
- Beat-other-player bonuses are worked out overnight, just after midnight UTC, once the previous day is finished and nobody can still change the standings.
- Monthly and lifetime totals are rebuilt in the same overnight run, so the figure you see each morning covers everything up to the end of yesterday.
- The Monthly Points Leader badge is awarded on the 1st of the month, for the month that has just ended.
Totals are rebuilt from your full pip history every night rather than nudged up and down, so a correction anywhere always ends up reflected everywhere.
Leaderboards & Tie-Breakers
On every Tixy leaderboard — the Daily Challenge, the Tixy Boards, Free Play top tens, and Social Games — the player with the highest score is the leader. When two players are tied, the tie is broken in this order:
- Most Tixys rolled in the game wins.
- Still tied? The player who rolled the fewest individual dice prevails — efficiency counts.
- Still tied? The player who finished first is the leader.
Tixy tracks every individual die you roll and every Tixy you land as part of your game statistics.
